Spearo Course Overview
Want to dive deeper, stay down longer, and feel more relaxed while spearfishing?
This Freediving for Spearfishing Workshop is designed specifically for beginner and aspiring spearos on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Sunshine Coast who want to build real underwater confidence safely and efficiently.
If you struggle with breath hold, equalisation, relaxation, or simply feeling comfortable underwater, this course will give you the foundations every safe and capable spearo needs.
Are you:
- Running out of breath too quickly while diving?
- Experiencing pain or pressure in your ears?
- Having trouble equalising when diving head first?
- Struggling to relax underwater?
- Feeling limited by shallow depth or short bottom time?
Spearfishing requires far more than simply “holding your breath.” Efficient spearos rely on proper breathing, body positioning, relaxation, equalisation, and underwater awareness to move calmly and safely through the water. Without these foundations, confidence, depth, and bottom time will always be limited.
Led by Gonzalo Cortes, a consistent -90m depth diver, this practical workshop focuses on the key freediving techniques that directly improve your spearfishing performance and safety.
During this workshop you will learn:
- How to improve your breath hold safely and effectively
- Breathing techniques to increase relaxation and bottom time
- Body positioning and underwater body awareness for more efficient diving
- A step-by-step introduction to the Frenzel equalisation technique
- How to equalise properly when diving head first
- The most common mistakes that limit depth and comfort underwater
We begin with a dry workshop session where you’ll learn breathing techniques, relaxation methods, and practical Frenzel equalisation drills using specific tools and exercises.
Then we move into the pool, where you’ll apply your breath hold and equalisation skills in a controlled 5 metre depth environment. This is where technique becomes real underwater confidence.
This Freediving for Spearfishing Workshop is beginner friendly, practical, and focused on giving you the essential freediving foundations to become a calmer, safer, and more capable spearo.
